Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Evades NFL Regulations Again With Covert Coors Light Campaign For Time Capsule

Despite NFL regulations prohibiting active players from endorsing alcohol, Patrick Mahomes, the prominent face of the Kansas City Chiefs and a Super Bowl champion, has found another loophole. Recently, Mahomes has been involved in filming a secretive Coors Light commercial that will be sealed in a time capsule, only to be unveiled after his retirement from football.

A portion of the commercial has already been revealed, with Coors Light releasing footage on Wednesday showing Mahomes in action during the “filming” of the confidential advertisement. The ad features Mahomes atop Coors Light’s “Chill Train,” a locomotive traversing icy terrain, evoking scenes reminiscent of “Mission: Impossible.” However, midway through filming, a Coors Light producer interrupts, reminding Mahomes of the NFL’s prohibition on endorsing alcoholic beverages, despite the commercial’s creativity and significance.

The solution? Mahomes and Coors Light have pledged to bury the fully completed commercial in a real-time capsule, to be unearthed “at some point in the future when Mahomes gains authorization” to endorse beer. Adding to the intrigue, Coors Light plans to livestream the burial of the time capsule directly from its Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, on Friday.

“As everyone knows, I’ve always had a fondness for Coors Light,” Mahomes remarked. “This summer, we’ve been cooking up something special. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until the day we can finally share it with the world!”

In acknowledgment of Mahomes’ involvement in the unseen beer commercial, Coors Light is launching the “Redatrick” Patrick Mahomes bobblehead, a pixelated figurine that cleverly conceals Mahomes’ identity. All proceeds from the bobbleheads will be directed to Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation.

This venture marks the third consecutive year that Mahomes has collaborated with Coors Light, promoting products other than beer. In 2022, the two-time NFL MVP starred in an advertisement for “The Coors Light,” a flashlight resembling an elongated Coors Light can. Last year, Mahomes endorsed the “Coors Light Bear,” a grizzly bear described as “0% adult beverage, 100% mammal,” hailed as “the world’s most refreshing bear.”
