CBS’ Gayle King hints Travis Kelce will appear at the DNC after claiming Chiefs star contacted Kamala Harris – before her co-hosts point out the one crucial detail she missed

Travis Kelce may be on the sideline for the Chiefs’ final preseason game, but that has not stopped intense speculation on the NFL star ‘wanting’ to be at the DNC instead.

Before the last night of the four-day Democratic National Convention on Thursday, CBS’ Gayle King revealed that the 34-year-old Travis wanted to make an appearance at the political event in Chicago, letting a secret out from an undisclosed source.

‘We have not been able to confirm the Beyonce/Taylor Swift rumors, and they are rampant down there, let me tell you,’ said a fellow CBS newscaster at first.

‘Well, you know the Taylor Swift rumors are interesting to me, because I was told a couple of days ago that Travis Kelce also had reached out to the Harris campaign when it was first announced and said that he wanted to be here on the night that [Kamala] was speaking,’ replied King. ‘We’ll see if that is true.’

King’s on-air colleagues quickly shut down the rumors, saying Kelce ‘has a game tonight,’ referring to Chiefs-Bears in Kansas City. But King, who was aware of the fixture at Arrowhead, refuted her peers’ point by saying: ‘I know he has a game but that doesn’t mean he’s playing… I’m just saying we shall see…’

Much to the point of Gayle’s on-air CBS colleagues, Kelce was spotted warming up in full Chiefs gear ahead of Thursday’s final preseason game against the Bears.

He did not dress up to play, as King highlighted on TV, but he was spotted wearing a Chiefs cap from the sideline.

Nonetheless, NFL fans on X couldn’t help but to think that ‘Swifities’ will go onto vote for Harris in November, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to many considering that the popstar is a well-known Democrat.

‘Well looks like she secured the Swifitie vote,’ a user wrote on social media, referring to Harris.

‘Taylor really got to him,’ another person pointed out, alluding to Kelce’s rumored political affiliation with the Dems’.

It’s unknown which party the NFL star supports.

‘They be making up celebrity appearances,’ someone else said about the Democrats’ long list of A-listers at the DNC including Lil’ Jon, Eva Longoria and Spike Lee.

Kelce is expected to gear up for the Chiefs’ first game of the 2024-25 NFL season against the Ravens, a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game.

The Ohio native has showed no signs of wanting to retire anytime soon, previously stating that he will keep playing football ‘until the wheels come off.’

‘I can’t put a timeframe on it,’ Kelce said of retirement. ‘Man, I love coming to work every single day. I know there’s opportunity outside of football for me, and I think you got to keep in perspective that I’m a little kid when I come into this building, man.

‘I know I’m 34 years old — about to be 35 (in October) — but I have a lot to do right here, in the middle of the heat in June,’ he continued. ‘I love coming to work every single day doing this. I’m going to do it until the wheels come off. Hopefully that doesn’t happen any time soon. But I definitely know it’s closer to the end of the road than the beginning of it.’

Kelce was chosen by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 draft, and despite missing almost all of his rookie season to a knee injury, has already become their career leader with 11,328 yards receiving. He needs 10 receptions to reach 917 and pass Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez for that record, and three touchdown catches would give him 77, dropping Gonzalez to No. 2 on that franchise list — both marks that he should reach in the first couple of weeks of this upcoming season.
