“Are the Eagles in Crisis?” Eagles Fans Beg Jason Kelce to Revert Retirement After Witnessing His Replacement’s Struggle Start

The Philadelphia Eagles’ first game without longtime center Jason Kelce got off to a rough start, leaving fans wondering if their beloved former captain should consider coming out of retirement. Cam Jurgens, who took over for Kelce this season after shifting from right guard, had a tough beginning in his new role, leading to a crucial turnover early in the game.

With just over seven minutes left in the first quarter, the Eagles faced a third-and-6 on their own 20-yard line. Jurgens botched the snap exchange with quarterback Jalen Hurts, allowing Green Bay Packers’ defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt to recover the football deep in the Eagles’ territory. This mistake gave the Packers excellent field position and shifted the momentum early in the game.

Philadelphia fans, accustomed to flawless play at the center position during Kelce’s 13-year career, quickly expressed their frustrations on social media. Kelce, who earned seven Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors before retiring, had set a high standard for the position.

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III was among those calling for Kelce’s return, tweeting, “Eagles need Jason Kelce to come out of retirement already.” Many others shared their nostalgia and disappointment, posting memes and reactions showing their longing for the veteran center to return.

Despite the early mishap, Jurgens worked hard to make up for his mistake. He laid down some impressive blocks later in the first half, which did not go unnoticed by the man he replaced. Kelce, live-tweeting the game from home, praised Jurgens for his efforts, tweeting, “Cam Jurgens! Pulling center! Gotta love it,” and later adding, “Big combo block with Jurgens and Becton!!”

Though the Eagles’ start to the season was less than ideal, Kelce’s supportive comments show his class and willingness to encourage his successor. While some fans may still dream of a Kelce comeback, it’s clear that Jurgens has the potential to grow into his new role under the bright lights of Philadelphia.

In the meantime, Eagles fans will continue to hope that their new center can rise to the challenge and carry on the legacy that Jason Kelce built.
